B-17E, Aircraft 41-9151
Aircraft No. 41-9151 was shot down 1 February 1943, somwhere in the Solomon Islands. For many years, that was all the families of the crew of that aircraft knew of the fate of their relatives. There were rumors: shot down at Munda Point; shot down at Bougainville; shot down 500 miles from land, and so on. The assistance of the Air Force Historical Association finally allowed the families to locate a report that finally identified the fate of that group of airmen. The stories of those men, to the extent their families can provide them, constitute the remainder of this web site. The families that are now in contact continue to seek the families of the other airmen on that mission.
